Bloggers Unpressed, Unite! October 26, 2013

I read a blogpost earlier that was addressed to the Freshly Pressed Olympic Selection committee: Dear WordPress…What Am I, Chopped Liver?.

I was inspired. In an effort to determine how long I have been blogging, and therefore how many days I have succeeded in avoiding becoming Freshly Pressed (face it; it sounds a bit painful, after all), I found a cool site that does that figuring out for you!

What coolness yonder breaks!  Go there if you are practicing constructive procrastination!

Remember the old days when you had to do some fancy paper-pencil calculation to figure out such irrelevant drivel? I, for one, am offering up a prayer of gratitude for this heretofore undreamed of convenience!

Which reminded me of how lucky I am to have an automatic washer, unlike that poor osteoporosis sufferer-in-training above, who delighted in the state-of-the-art wringer machine she received one special Mother’s Day or anniversary.  Diamonds, schmiamonds.

I am guessing that that wringer action is what being Freshly Pressed is like.  This is my response to my friend Princess Rosebud‘s post bemoaning her own tenure as an NFP (Not Freshly Pressed) blogger: make it cool to be NFP!  I’m at 631 proud, mediocre blogger days.  I have also managed to keep my Twitter following down to exactly 20. That’s some exclusive club, man.

Further research led me to this gem, a blast from the past from Le Clown, who has since been Pressed.  Good to know that we were, at least for awhile, in good company.

  1. I’m a proud card-carrying member of the unwashed, unPressed club newly formed by PeachyTeachy. “Ask not what your blogger community can do for you, ask what YOU can do for your blogger community.” Hear me ROAR! And muchas gracias for the shout out, Señora.

    Peachy,
Being Freshly Pressed is a rush, but it will leave you with a messy living room once all the guests will run to the next FP’d post. I did wear this banner proudly while it lasted. Feel free to use it.

Thank you, kind sir! For now, I make it my business to appreciate my automated appliances and my cozy family of readers.

        Peachy,
Keep it that way… Writing to be Freshly Pressed becomes distracting and takes the fun away from blogging.

So true! Every time I read some prescriptive crap about being funny or any “Blogger, do this,” I get pissed off and do the opposite in the blog world. Which is very freeing, really. It’s like getting to be a teenager again with super low stakes.

I also am a part of this elite group of NFP bloggers. I have been blogging for 5 1/2 years—-3 of those on WordPress. Sadly I have never been “selected” to be worthy. Obviously I know that not all of my posts are worthy but come on—–some of them have been downright awesome. 🙂 Here’s hoping that the world rights itself soon and we all realize our dreams of being Freshly Pressed. On second thought, maybe not. I doubt I could carry the fame and fortune that comes with that crown.
Thanks for the great post. It made me feel not quite as alone.

In reality, the likelihood is that we are in the majority in this distinction. I just ran across one of my old posts and it was damned funny. That’s really enough right now.

Yea—I hear ya. (or rather read ya!) I don’t think I could handle the fame and fortune that comes with it anyway. Happy to be me and content with my adoring fanbase. 🙂 Thanks for the chuckle.

Oh this is precious!! I love it when wordpress makes a massive gaff, like eliminating likes or skipping whole days in the reader. They always blame something else, saying the problem is “not on our end” and they only “have a handful of staff to manage more than a million blogs.” I as so impressed that a couple of staff can read more than a million blogs!! It’ downright magical!! lol~

Whether or not you EVER get Freshly Pressed, you, my friend, will NEVER be mediocre 🙂

I’ve seen some Freshly Pressed garbage. Very stinky. You wouldn’t want to associate with that. You are far too fabulous!

I have been blogging for 2 1/2 years. I post most every day. And I have yet to be chosen for Freshly Pressed. Sometimes I still get pissed about that, but most of the time I accept that I won’t make it. And that’s OK, because blogging is the only thing I do where I don’t have to follow someone else’s rules, and I refuse to fit into the WordPress box just for a moment’s glory.
